Nigeria launches PVG policy & implementation framework - 08 Feb 2013
On the 7th of February 2013, the Honourable Minister of health, Professor C.O. Onyebuchi launched the National Drug Distribution Guidelines & and the Nigerian Pharmacovigilance (PVG) Policy and Implementation plan.
In his keynote remarks, Professor Onyebuchi stated that it is the intention of the government that this PVG policy will provide the framework for all the stakeholders who operate in the health sector to work concertedly in order to define and characterise the adverse effects and other medicine related problems occurring in Nigeria.
The chairman of the occasion, Senator Ike Ekweremadu (Deputy Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria) enjoined all Nigerians to avoid the irrational use of medicines by ensuring that there are appropriate prescriptions in place.
The launch which took place at the Ladi Kwali Hall of the Sheraton Hotel & Towers Abuja was well attended by partners, private health sectors, parastatals and not for profit private sectors. During the launch of the National drug distribution guidelines, the Minister also inaugurated the drug distribution advocate of Nigeria.
